The equality between male and female is a longstanding issue,especially from when the capitalism was developed in the 18th century to present day, women’s issue becomes more prominent. The United States, as the representative of western capitalist countries, leads to many feminist movement.Female’s status has greatly improved than before. But female in politics, economic, culture, and other fields are still in an unequal status fundamentally. Under the influence of current economic globalization, female’s issue faces more challenges and feminists in a new era contiue making advanced theoretical discussion.
Marxist feminism thought arose in the 1960s, during the second feminist movement. Some feminists started to anylyse female’s issue by the aid of Marxism, then feminism turned to Marxism. Heidi ? Hartmann, as one representative, proposed that the female’s oppression is due to dual mechanism of patriarchy and capitalism, thus sparking the debate about the binding of Marxism and feminism.
This paper firstly invesgated Hartmann’s thought from the two aspects of social and historical condition and theory origin. Secondly, the paper analyzed the ideological contents of Heidi Hartmann’s thought under Marxist feminism, focusing on the dual systems and providing a new perspective for the liberation of women. In this paper, the contrastive study of Hartmann’s dual ideas, as innovation,was compared not only with viewpoints of non-Marxist feminism theory in the same period, but also with other viewpoints of unitary and dual Marxist feminism. On the basis of sorting its ideological content and diverse analysis, this paper summarized the beneficial ingredient and historical limitations of their thoughts, thereby providing reference for Chinese female’s problem.
