The switch machines play important roles in the railway transportantion system. They are distributed along the railway and one is far away from another. The size of the switch machine gap is an important monitoring indicator. There are two kinds of monitoring method for the gap, which are manual and automatic monitoring. The manual check needs workers open the case lid to observe or use special guage to measure the gap. This way has low efficiency, its real-time performance is poor at the same time. The using of mechanical sensors not only costs more but also has a high rate of false alarm. Therefore more effecttive methods are needed to monitor the switch machine gap. This research presents a way for the point swich monitoring based on the collection and processing of image.
This paper investigates an and analysises the distribution and operation of the switch machine at first. Then the operational procedures and specifications are grasped. At last the reseasonable value of the switch machine gap range is determined. This paper designs the overall system according to the requirements of point switch machine’s monitoring.
The hardware circuit of the monitoring slave terminal is designed based on DM365 microcontroller. Then this paper introduces the relative driver and the system software designs. Considering that network cable’s transmission distance is short and the wireless signal is not safe, the system takes advantages of TCP/IP technology and power line carrier communication technology to transfer image data. When monitoring software on host computer gets the data, the switch machine gap image can be displayed in real time. At the same time, the computer completes the image processing and survey algorithm, which can determin whether the switch machine gap is in the correction. As a consequence, the functions of remote real-time monitoring and early waring are implemented.
Experimental results prove that the system is available for real-time monitoring of switch machine gap, which is an effective way to enhance the operational efficiency and safety, making the monitoring of switch machine more modern and intelligent.
