With the development of global economy and social progress, the energy shortage and the environment pollution becomes the resistance of the economic development of human society, and the severe challenge what humans must face in the 21 st century. Solar energy is currently one of the new exploitable energy, is a typical "green energy", the main use form of solar energy is photovoltaic power generation. But in solar cell manufacturing process, there is pollution. At present, the inorganic medium binder used in solar cell aluminum electrode paste contain lead, which caused serious pollution to the environment in the process of production and use, directly or indirectly harm to human body health. And lead-free binder still remains quality problems, mainly displays in the weak mechanical strength, poor environmental resistance, electric performance is not stable, etc.In this paper, the preparation and performance of lead-free glass used in aluminum electrodes paste for silicon photovoltaic cells are studied. The lead-free glass forming mechanism and the role of the component of the glass are sthdied. Mainly Bi2O3-SiO2-B2O3-ZnO-Al2O3 based glass system is established. From the chemical composition of glass, analyzes the chemical stability, especially hydrolysis stability. Adjusted the component of Bi glass, establish the aluminum electrode pv voltage test methods and contact resistance testing method, studied the influence of the lead-free glass content to aluminum electrode water resistance, the surface, the electrical performance and membrane strength, and determined the best content of lead-free glass for aluminum paste.Through the experiment: Al2O3 and B2O3 have an important influence on aluminum electrode ashing. The lead-free glass formula which B2O3 content is 2% solved the ashing problem. When the glass content of aluminum paste is from 1 to 4 percent, the aluminum electrode don’t have ashing appearance. In the experiment, the influence on the performance of aluminum electrode surface, photovoltaic voltage, contact resistance and membrane strength, etc by the content of glass powder in aluminum electrode paste is texted. The results showed that the electric properties of aluminum electrode is good, the membrane have the high strength, high adhesion, no falling off and ashing phenomenon. The glass powder can be used in industrial production.
